As you may have heard, there are a couple of restaurants in our community that have switched hashgachos and are no longer under the Vaad Harabonim of Queens.
For many decades, the Vaad has provided stellar kashrus supervision in our community and serves as a gold standard for Vaads throughout the country. This reputation developed under the leadership of great rabbanim, including Rabbi Morris Max z”l and Rabbi Joseph Grunblatt z”l.
It is my belief, shared by many of my colleagues, that kashrus should be operated by the local rabbanim of the community from a place of consensus, and it is important to hold by communal standards in order to maintain the integrity of our kashrus. It is therefore important that within the shul, we continue to serve food that is certified by the Vaad, as well as when hosting members of the community.
